BPC Track Runs In Florida

The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons men’s and women’s track and field teams went to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the SSAC Indoor Championships on February 20-21, and had numerous standout performances. The men’s team took home fourth place in the conference, and the women’s team took home fifth place overall.

The Barons had two members win their events and take home 1st-place championships: Kaiya Bryant, who won the triple jump with a distance of 11.36m, and Yusuf Aduukar, who won the Heptathlon. The Barons saw Hollis Morton take home 2ndplace in the High Jump with a 2.04m jump, and Kiara Green grabbed 2nd in the 60m and 200m sprints. Both the men’s and women’s 4×400 teams grabbed third place at the championship.

The Barons also saw numerous school records being broken at the event, including Bryant, who set a new school record for the women’s high jump with a height of 1.57m, and also set a school record with her triple jump win. Hollis Morton set a school record in the 200m race, and Green, who won second place in both races, set new school records in both. Reese Bryant tossing a record in the Weight Throw. The women’s 4×400 team of Kiara Green, Sidni Daniels, Kameron Noble, and Kendra Payne set the school record with their 3rd-place finish. Records also set in the Men's 4×800 and DMR.

Track and Field Director Tony Hawkins reflected on the team's performance, saying. “The indoor season is a building block for the outdoor season. The staff is proud of the team's effort. We still have work to do as we prepare for the indoor national championship.”

The Barons track and field teams have already started their transition to outdoor season, while those who qualified for Nationals will prepare to compete at the Indoor National Championships on March 5.
