Interesting Week For Vikings
The Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team anticipated a grueling five-game slate this past week. However, unexpected cancellations kept them off the field for a significant stretch.
A scheduled doubleheader on Tuesday against Dooly County resulted in two forfeit victories for Treutlen. The team picked up a third win by forfeit on Thursday when Wilkinson County cancelled their matchup. vs. Taylor Co.
The Vikings saw their first live action of the week on Wednesday, traveling to face the Taylor County Vikings. Taylor County jumped out early, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
They added two more in the second to build a commanding 6-0 lead. Treutlen got on the board with a run in the top of the third, but Taylor answered immediately with a run in the bottom half of the frame.
After Treutlen plated another run in the top of the fourth, Taylor added two more to make it 9-2. Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning, sealing an 11-4 win for Taylor County. vs. Putnam Co.
Treutlen hit the road again on Friday to take on the Putnam County War Eagles. The Vikings struck first, taking an early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Putnam quickly closed the gap with two runs in the bottom half to make it 3-2. The War Eagles then took control in the second inning with a five-run surge for a 7-3 lead.
They continued to pull away, adding two runs in both the third and fourth innings, along with one more in the fifth, to secure a 12-3 victory over Treutlen.
This week, the Vikings faced off against Hawkinsville on Monday after presstime. They will be back in action at home on Wednesday to host East Laurens at 5:30 p.m. Finally, they will head back on the road Friday for a rematch at Hawkinsville at 5:30 p.m.
