The Toombs County High School Bulldogs baseball team had a busy and successful week on the diamond. They played three games, securing two victories to adjust their earlyseason record to 2-3. vs. Metter

The week began on the road against the Tigers of Metter on Tuesday. It would be the Bulldogs' only loss of the week in a tight backand- forth battle.

Lawton Toole got Toombs on the board early, driving in a run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning. Metter tied the game in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the third, the Bulldogs' offense exploded for five runs. The surge was highlighted by a massive grand slam from Brody Benton, giving TCHS a 6-1 advantage.

Metter steadily fought back, picking up three runs in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 6-4. They tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth inning with two more runs.

The Tigers ultimately pulled off the comeback with a final run in the bottom of the seventh inning, taking the game 7-6. vs. Dublin

The Bulldogs bounced back on Thursday against the Fighting Irish of Dublin.

Riley Kersey gave Toombs the initial lead in the top of the third inning by ripping an RBI single. Dublin finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning, tying the game at 1-1.

In the top of the seventh, Joseph Owens played the hero. He launched a clutch solo home run to put the Bulldogs back on top, 2-1.

The TCHS defense held strong in the bottom of the inning to secure the one-run victory. vs. Statesboro

Saturday's matchup against the Blue Devils of Statesboro was a true pitching duel. Neither team managed to score a single run over the first six innings.

The deadlock finally broke in the top of the seventh. Lawton Toole came through with a single to drive in the first run of the game.

TCHS added one more crucial insurance run in the inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Statesboro attempted a late rally in the bottom of the final inning but came up short with just one run. Toombs held on to claim another 2-1 win.

The Bulldogs are now 2-3 early in the season. This week, Toombs hosted Pierce County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Wednesday at Effingham County at 6:00 p.m. The week wraps up on the road against Valdosta on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
