Bulldogs Into State Tourney

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs basketball teams recently competed in the Region Tournament. The tournament brought a close to the girls' season while the boys secured a hard-fought spot in the upcoming State Tournament.

Girls The Lady Bulldogs started their postseason strong. They earned a 54-40 victory in their play-in game against the Lady Raiders of Savannah Christian.

Arianna Hill paced the offense with 14 points. Emerson Powell followed closely with 11 points to help Toombs advance.

However, their tournament run and season came to an end in the next round. They suffered a 58-43 loss to the Lady Hornets of Savannah Country Day.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the year with an overall record of 8-18.

Boys vs. Country Day

The boys tipped off their tournament against the Savannah Country Day Hornets. Savannah Country Day jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the first period.

The Bulldogs rallied in the second quarter. They took a 24-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Toombs extended their advantage in the third quarter to 37-30. They finished strong for a 54-47 victory, with Qwan Monroe leading the Bulldogs with 16 points.

Boys vs. Vidalia

In their next matchup, the Bulldogs faced a tough rival in the Vidalia High School Indians. Vidalia established control early. They took a 22-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 30-23 advantage at halftime.

Parker Stanley and Jayden Jackson provided consistent scoring efforts to keep the game within reach. However, Vidalia extended their lead to 46-33 by the end of the third quarter.

The Bulldogs fought hard in the final period. Ultimately, they fell to the Indians 58-48.

Boys vs. Woodville

Toombs County bounced back in a thrilling consolation game against the Woodville-Tompkins Wolverines. The hardfought win allowed them to claim third place in the Region.

The teams were deadlocked at 11-11 after the first period. Toombs took a narrow 24-20 lead into the half.

Woodville-Tompkins surged in the third quarter to grab a 37-34 lead. This set up a dramatic final period where the Wolverines pushed their lead to 46-41 with under three minutes remaining.

The Bulldogs then mounted a massive lategame rally. Parker Stanley hit back-to-back field goals to give Toombs the lead.

Jayden Jackson sank clutch free throws in the closing minute. This secured a thrilling 49-48 victory for the Bulldogs.

The Toombs County boys now advance to the State Tournament. They will host the Yellow Jackets of Jeff Davis this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

A win on Wednesday would advance the Bulldogs to Saturday. This could potentially set up a high-stakes rematch against Vidalia.
