The Barons stayed within a possession for much of the opening half despite a series of Dalton State spurts sparked by their perimeter shooting. A 3-pointer by Qualen Pettus made it 27-24, and another three from Ja’Ron Briggs pushed the Roadrunners’ lead to 34-30 late in the half. The Barons battled back to start the second half with a Tisdale dunk, which briefly swung the lead back to Brewton-Parker, but Dalton State quickly reclaimed control on a dunk by Varun Danak for a 40-39 edge. From there, Pettus and Smith drove a sustained run that Brewton-Parker could not fully counter, with the Roadrunners repeatedly capitalizing on half-court defensive stops and timely shooting. The Barons continued to compete into the closing minutes, but Dalton State’s late-game execution at the line sealed the outcome Gil Gonzalez led the Barons with 15 points and eight rebounds while going 5-of-11 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 at the line, also contributing two blocks. Jayden Hill’s layup and free throw with 6:01 remaining made it 72-49, effectively breaking the game open. The Barons led by as many as 20 when Karsen Steinbarger converted a layup to make it 80-60 with 2:07 to play.
