Vikings Wrap Up Regular Season

The Treutlen County High School basketball teams concluded their regular season schedule last week, taking the court for a demanding three games in four days against region rivals Montgomery County, Jenkins County, and Johnson County. It was a week of mixed fortunes to cap off the campaign, as the Lady Vikings secured two victories while the boys’ team managed to salvage the finale with a high-scoring win. vs. Montgomery Co.

The final week of action opened with a rivalry matchup against the Montgomery County Eagles on Tuesday. The Lady Vikings set the tone for the week with a gritty defensive performance, holding the Lady Eagles to just 25 points. Treutlen’s offense did enough to secure the win, defeating Montgomery County 34-25. The boys’ game proved to be a tighter contest, with the Vikings battling hard in a back-andforth affair. Despite a 73-point offensive outburst, the Vikings could not hold off the Eagles down the stretch, falling in a close 7873 defeat. vs. Jenkins Co.

Action continued as the teams faced off against the Jenkins County War Eagles. The Lady Vikings continued their winning ways, showing consistency on both ends of the floor. They controlled the tempo to defeat the Lady War Eagles by a score of 41-28, marking their second win of the week. The boys’ team, however, struggled to contain the Jenkins County offense. The War Eagles found their rhythm early and rolled to an 86-68 victory, handing the Vikings their second loss of the week. vs. Johnson Co.

The regular season concluded with a showdown against the Johnson County Trojans. The Lady Vikings, looking to finish the week perfect, finally met their match against a strong Lady Trojans squad. Johnson County’s offense proved too much to handle, and the Lady Vikings suffered their only loss of the stretch, falling 63-43. Conversely, the Treutlen boys saved their best performance for the season finale. Bouncing back from two tough losses, the offense exploded for a season-high performance, dismantling the Trojans in an 89-73 victory to head into the postseason on a high note.

The Lady Vikings are now 5-19 on he season and they are 4-8 in Region play. The boys are 10-15 on the year and are 6-6 in he Region. Region Tournaments will begin next week.
