The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons women’s wrestling team faced off against the Montreat College Cavaliers team on the road on February 5. Despite the Barons’ best efforts, they were unable to overcome the Cavaliers team, dropping the dual 38-12.
Starting the dual down 15-0 due to the Barons having some forfeits, the score would be a challenge to overcome. Each match saw great effort, but not everyone got the result needed for the dual victory. The Barons did have two standout performances from Tiana Fries and Rubie Barton. Fries dominated her match at 138 lbs and won via fall in under 2 minutes. The Barons then had the dual end on a positive note when Barton won her matchup at 207 lbs with a fall in 1:16.
Head Coach Josh Sturgli reflected on the team's performance, saying. “A tough week dealing with sickness, so we knew it was going to be a challenge on the team score. Despite the final score of the night, every one of our girls competed very well with intensity. We continue cleaning up and opening a few positional errors, some of those matches go our way. Excited for the next couple of weeks, where we can really focus on refinement before the conference.”
The Lady Barons wrap up the regular season for Duals this week. They were at the at Andrew College on Tuesday after presstime.
