Busy Week For MCHS Eagles
It was a busy week for the Montgomery County High School Eagles basketball teams as they faced three region opponents in five days. The Eagles hosted the Vikings of Treutlen County on Tuesday, traveled to the Bulldogs of Wheeler County on Friday, and wrapped up the week at home on Saturday for Senior Night against the Red Devils of Hawkinsville. The Lady Eagles picked up a win over Hawkinsville, while the boys secured victories over both Treutlen and Hawkinsville.
Girls vs. Treutlen
In the opener against Treutlen, it was a low-scoring affair for the girls with the visitors coming out on top. The Lady Vikings controlled the pace to win the game, 34-25.
Boys vs. Treutlen
The boys' matchup against Treutlen was a tight contest, but MCHS came out on top, 78-73. The victory was significant for the Eagles as it snapped the Vikings' three-game winning streak and marked a second consecutive win for Montgomery County, improving their season record to 7-15 at the time.
Girls vs. Wheeler
On Friday, the teams traveled to Wheeler County. The Lady Bulldogs had three players score in double figures as they pulled away from the Lady Eagles to win the game, 63-31.
Boys vs. Wheeler
In the boys' game at Wheeler, the Eagles struggled early, trailing 19-8 at the end of the first period and 35-17 at halftime. Wheeler continued to extend the lead in the third quarter, holding a 60-30 advantage heading into the final frame. Wheeler ultimately took the win, 7347.
Girls vs. Hawkinsville
Returning home on Saturday against Hawkinsville, the Lady Eagles earned their third win of the season. They held the Lady Devils' offense in check to secure a decisive victory, 34-15.
Boys vs. Hawkinsville
The boys' finale against Hawkinsville was a battle throughout as the Eagles took a thrilling 2-point victory on Senior Night. Hawkinsville led 12-11 at the end of the first, but the game was knotted at 26-26 by halftime. The Eagles managed to take a 45-42 lead heading into the fourth period and hung on in the final minutes to win the game, 64-62.
The Lady Eagles are now 3-21 on the season and they are 2-10 in the Region. The boys are 9-16 on the year and they are 6-6 in the Region and in third place. The Eagles wrapped up the regular season this week after presstime with games against Brantley County on Monday and Hawkinsville on Tuesday.
