BPCU Men Close Out Duals With Win

The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons men’s wrestling team hosted Reinhardt University and were at Andrew College last week in their final duals of the season. vs. Reinhardt

Bre w t o n – Pa r k e r Christian University Barons men’s wrestling team hosted the (RV) Reinhardt University Eagles at Gillis Gymnasium on January 30. The Barons gave their best on their senior day celebration, honoring four seniors, but were unable to overcome the Eagles and lost the dual 40-3.

The Barons did all they could, but the only victory of the day came from Zahquel Davis in the 184 lbs matchup, where he took down Jonathan Paramore in a 13-6 decision. The Barons did their best and had several close matches, but could not overcome the Eagles' skill on the mats.

The Barons will get ready to be back in action quickly as they prepare to take on Andrew College on the road on February 5, 202,6 before they prepare for the postseason. vs. Andrew

The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons men’s wrestling team faced off against the Fighting Tigers of Andrew College and dominated the dual from start to finish, taking home a commanding 39-17 win to wrap up their regular season.

The Barons saw dominating performances across the board, starting with three bonus point victories in the 141, 149, and 157 lbs showdowns. Kullum Irvin kicked off the Barons' scoring in the 141, earning the team six points by way of disqualification before Arthur Reed followed him in the 149 lbs showdown with a fall, and was followed up by Blake Walker getting another six points by fall at the end of the first period.

The Barons saw a brief interlude before they were back on the board, scoring a 13-9 decision from Gailan Wilds in the 174 lbs matchup. After Wild's match, the Barons had back-to-backto- back falls victories. Sean Houston won in the 184 lbs, followed by Zahquel Davis at 197, and Turk Daniels wrapped up the dual with another six points in the heavyweight 285 lbs clash.

Following the decisive victory, the Barons kept the good times rolling with three wins in the exhibition matches. Caden Whitaker grabbed a win in a 149 lbs exhibition. Mason Obama followed that up with a win in the 165 lbs match, and Gailan Wilds got back on the mat for a major decision win in the 174 lbs exhibition showing.

The Barons will look to carry the momentum from the wins into the postseason. The Barons will have time off before the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament opens on February 20, during which they will look to punch their ticket to the NAIA National Tournament on March 5.
