Vikings Pick Up 2 Big Wins

The Treutlen County High School Vikings basketball teams hosted a pair of region opponents last week, welcoming the Telfair County Trojans on Tuesday and the Wilcox County Patriots on Friday. It was a week of mixed results for Treutlen, as the Lady Vikings struggled against strong opposition in both contests, while the boys’ team successfully defended their home court with a pair of victories. vs. Telfair Co.

Action began Tuesday night with the Lady Vikings facing off against the Telfair County Lady Trojans. The visitors established dominance early, jumping out to a commanding 17-4 lead by the end of the first period. The Lady Trojans continued to apply pressure, extending their advantage to 38-6 by halftime and 54-6 by the end of the third. Despite their efforts, the Lady Vikings could not slow the Telfair offense, ultimately falling by a final score of 67-9.

The Viking boys fared much better in the nightcap, controlling the pace of the game to secure a decisive 76-58 victory over the Trojans. vs. Wilcox

The Vikings returned to the court on Friday to host the Wilcox County Patriots. The Lady Vikings showed improvement on the offensive end compared to their Tuesday performance but were unable to keep pace with the Lady Patriots, suffering a 63-24 loss.

The final game of the week proved to be the most thrilling, as the Viking boys engaged in a tight battle with Wilcox County. The Patriots held the upper hand early, leading 19-16 after the first quarter. Treutlen managed to narrow the gap by halftime, trailing closely at 34-32, but Wilcox pushed their lead back out to 51-45 by the end of the third. In a dramatic fourth quarter, the Vikings rallied, surging past the Patriots to claim a hard-fought 62-58 comeback win.

The Lady Vikings are now 3-18 on the season, and they are 3-8 in the Region. The boys are 9-13 on the year, and they are 6-5 in Region play. Treutlen will wrap up the regular season this week. They were at Montgomery County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at Jenkins County at 6:00 p.m., and then will host Johnson County on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
