TCHS Students Earn Top Honors in Microsoft Office Specialist State Competition

Two Toombs County High School Students were awarded top honors in the Microsoft Office Specialist State Competition, recognizing their proficiency in the programs.
The Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) competitions test students’ knowledge and skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs, allowing the students to network with potential employers, make new friends, and showcase their abilities. Students – ages 13 to 22 – submit their qualified, passing scores on certification exams for these programs to the competition, and winners are later announced by Certiport, a Pearson business that is regarded as the leading provider of performancebased IT certification exams that accelerate people’s academic and career opportunities. Toombs County High School Students Maecon Lynn and John Featherston submitted their exams in the Fall National Qualifier competition, also known as the State Competition, but recently learned of their results.
Lynn placed 1st in the Microsoft Office Specialist Word (Office 2019) category, competing against students from across Georgia. She will represent Georgia at the 2026 MOS U.S. National Championship in Nashville, Tennessee. During this event, they will compete in their exam track, network with other top students from around the United States and celebrate their certification success. One winner per track will be named the U.S. National Champion and earn a trip to represent the United States and compete in the 2026 MOS World Championship in Anaheim, California. Featherston also found success, earning 2nd place in the same category. Both students achieved perfect scores on the exam.
“I am so proud of these students. The exam is not an easy one and both Maecon and John scored a perfect score. I hope this will encourage all of the students to try their best and that we can have more winners at TCHS,” Toombs County High School Business Teacher Jessica Jones emphasized.
The Microsoft Office Specialist certification is the only Microsoft-recognized certification for Microsoft Office and is designed to measure realworld skills students can apply in academic and career settings.
