FORT WAYNE, Ind. The Brewton-Parker Christian University women’s wrestling team competed at the Indiana Tech Warrior Open on January 23 & 24. The open saw several standout performances from various Barons, including three top-10 finishes in their weight classes.
The Barons saw great performances from Maka’alaokeAkua Domingo, who went 3-2 on the weekend and placed fourth in the 117 lbs division. She was joined by Kathleen Fisher, who went 3-2 and placed eighth in the 131 lbs division. The Barons also saw great matches from Tiana Fries, who finished 4-2 on the weekend, competing against one of the largest and talent-loaded divisions. Rubie Barton also earned herself an eighth-place finish in the 207 lbs division.
Head Coach Josh Sturgil shared his thoughts on the team's performance, “This tournament is comparable to a national tournament feel. We competed against teams from all over the country, Oregon, Kansas, Montana, and more that we don’t see throughout the year, and our girls came to compete against them all! A lot of great things and improvements to gain from our competition here, and I’m excited to see the continued growth of our ladies as individuals and as a team.”
The Barons are rapidly approaching the postseason and have one of their final duals of the year on February 5. They will head to Montreat, N.C., to take on the Cavaliers of Montreat College.
