Bulldogs Take Area Title
The Toombs County MatDawgs delivered a dominant performance on the mat in Dublin last weekend, capturing the GHSA Class 1A Area 2 Championship with an impressive 245.5 team points. Finishing well ahead of the competition, the victory reflects the depth, toughness, and preparation of the squad as they continue their postseason run.
Eleven MatDawgs punched their tickets to the next qualifying event, led by 6 individual Area Champions. Lukas Young (113), Wyatt Bunch (132), Clark Brannen (138), Samson Dobbs (144), Lucas Coley (175), and Leeson Allen (190) all claimed gold medals in their respective weight classes to pace the team.
Adding to the point total were 5 other podium finishers who kept their seasons alive. Tyson Brantley (150) and Sebastian Crow (157) earned runner-up finishes, while Jesse McCoy (120) and Top Peterson (215) took third place. Dax Nobles (285) rounded out the group of qualifiers with a fourthplace effort.
The qualifiers now look ahead to the Sectional tournament, which will be held at Toombs County High School on Saturday, Feb. 7. The top 8 wrestlers at each weight class will advance to the State Tournament at the Clayton County Convention Center the following week.
