Bulldogs Sweep Woodville
The Toombs County High School basketball teams experienced a week of mixed results on the road, securing a sweep against the Wolverines of Woodville-Tompkins on Tuesday before dropping both contests to the Swainsboro Tigers on Friday.
Girls vs. Woodville
In Tuesday's action against Woodville-Tompkins, the Lady Bulldogs fought through a competitive matchup to secure a victory. The game remained tight early on, with Toombs holding a narrow 14-13 lead after the first period and a 26-24 advantage at the break. The Lady Bulldogs managed to create some separation in the third quarter, extending their lead to 39-33. Despite a fourth-quarter rally attempt by the Lady Wolverines, Toombs held firm to clinch a 53-50 win. Arianna Hill powered the offense, leading the team with a game-high 26 points.
Boys vs. Woodville
The boys team completed the Tuesday sweep with a solid performance against the Wolverines. Toombs established a 1310 lead after the opening quarter and pushed the margin to 24-17 by halftime. Although Woodville-Tompkins cut the deficit to 34-30 heading into the final period, the Bulldogs maintained their composure to seal a 50-44 victory. Parker Stanley paced the Bulldogs with 17 points, while Cornelius Bullard contributed 10 points to the winning effort.
Girls vs. Swainsboro
Friday’s trip to Swainsboro proved more difficult for the Lady Bulldogs, who struggled to overcome a slow start against the Lady Tigers. Swainsboro jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first quarter and maintained control, leaving Toombs trailing 24-14 at halftime. The deficit held through the third quarter, with the score sitting at 34-24, and Swainsboro eventually pulled away for a 49-36 win. Despite the loss, Taylor Bland led TCHS with 15 points, and Arianna Hill added 14.
Boys vs. Swainsboro
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs boys team started strong but couldn't sustain their momentum against the Tigers. Toombs led 2118 after a high-scoring first period and expanded that advantage to 31-27 at the half. However, the momentum shifted in the third quarter as the Tigers stormed back to take a 4339 lead. Swainsboro pulled away in the fourth quarter to hand Toombs a 65-51 defeat. Bullard led the offense with 13 points, followed by Stanley with 12 and Amari Eason with 9.
The Lady Bulldogs are 6-15 on the season and they are 2-7 in Region play. The boys are 15-8 on the year and are 3-5 in the Region. This is the next to last week of the regular season. The girls are the only team with a game this week as they took on the Saints of St. Vincent's on Tuesday at home after presstime. Both the boys and girls will be back in action next week against Vidalia and Savannah Christian.
