The Vidalia High School wrestling teams proved their mettle last week during a grueling schedule that spanned two major tournaments. Between the Brian Barrett Throwdown at Richmond Hill and the Sweet Onion Invitational at Toombs County, the Indians showcased depth across the varsity and JV rosters, bringing home a significant collection of hardware as the postseason approaches.

Brian Barrett Throwdown The week began at Richmond Hill High School, where the JV boys and varsity girls combined forces to secure a 6th-place finish. The squad battled for every point, securing five medals in a performance defined by heart and pride.

Dylan Kicklighter anchored the effort, taking 1st place in the 138-pound weight class. The team also saw strong runner-up finishes from Tracy Blair (150 lbs), Messiah Salem (125 lbs), Timya Mills (170 lbs), and Zakhia White (235 lbs).

Girls at Sweet Onion

Vidalia Girls Wrestling delivered a flawless performance at the Sweet Onion Invitational at Toombs County High School. Every Lady Indian who stepped on the mat left with a medal, underscoring the program’s rising dominance.

Champions Messiah Salem (125 lbs), Imani Hall (130 lbs), and Timya Mills (170 lbs) led the charge, battling their way to the top of the podium. Abby Hunt (115 lbs) and Zakhia White (235 lbs) added impressive runner-up finishes to cap off the perfect medal count.

'This group is tough, hungry, and fearless,' said Coach Jennifer Blount. 'They compete with confidence, they believe in their training, and they’re setting the standard for what Vidalia Girls Wrestling is going to be.'

Boys at Sweet Onion

The Vidalia boys showed considerable growth against a stacked field at the Sweet Onion Invitational, finishing 10th out of 31 teams.

Dylan Kicklighter continued his strong week with a second-place finish at 138 pounds, joined on the podium by Alexander Muzafarov, who took second at 157 pounds. In the heavyweight division, Torey Jackson fought his way to a third-place medal.

The future of the program also looks bright, with the JV squad making their mark. Ziyon Singleton earned second place at 190 pounds, while Cavonte Singleton took third at 132 pounds.
