Tough Week For MCHS
It was a challenging week away from home for the Montgomery County High School basketball teams. The Eagles faced a grueling three-game schedule on the road, facing off against Wilcox County, Hawkinsville, and Pierce County. The week proved difficult for MCHS, as the squads finished with a combined 1-5 record, with the only victory coming Friday night from the Lady Eagles against Hawkinsville. vs. Wilcox Co.
The week began on a sour note Tuesday night in Rochelle against the Wilcox County Patriots. The Lady Eagles struggled to find their rhythm, as the Lady Patriots controlled the tempo from the opening tipoff. Wilcox County cruised to a decisive 59-17 victory.
The boys’ matchup followed a similar narrative. despite their efforts, the Eagles were unable to overcome the Patriots' attack, dropping the contest 64-45. vs. Hawkinsville
Friday night offered a glimmer of hope as the teams traveled to face the Red Devils. The Lady Eagles delivered the highlight of the week, playing disciplined basketball to secure a commanding 47-20 win over the Lady Red Devils.
The boys’ game was a much tighter affair. The Eagles came out hot, holding a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, Hawkinsville rallied in the second, taking a 2824 advantage into halftime. The Red Devils extended their lead to 46-34 by the end of the third. MCHS mounted a spirited comeback in the final period but ultimately ran out of time, falling 59-54. vs. Pierce Co.
The week concluded Saturday with a trip to Blackshear to face the Bears. The Lady Eagles ran into a powerhouse performance by the Lady Bears, suffering a tough 69-8 loss.
The boys’ finale was a thriller that went down to the wire. The Eagles battled fiercely against the Bears, keeping the game within reach until the final buzzer. Despite a valiant fight, MCHS came up just short, losing a heartbreaker 66-63.
