Rough Week For Vikings

Vikings Face Tough Week, Boys Salvage Split with ECI It was a challenging week on the hardwood for the Treutlen County High School Vikings. Facing a gauntlet of three games in five days, the Vikings struggled to find their footing early, dropping consecutive matchups to Dooly County and Wheeler County. However, the week ended on a high note for the boys’ squad, who secured a dominant victory over Emanuel County Institute (ECI) to salvage a split on Saturday. vs. Dooly Co.

The week began with a road trip to face the Dooly County Bobcats, where points were at a premium for the Lady Vikings. In a defensive struggle, the girls fell 4130.

The boys’ game saw significantly more offense, but the result was similar. Despite a hardfought effort, the Vikings could not match the Bobcats’ scoring pace, falling 77- 64. vs. Wheeler Co.

Friday brought the Wheeler County Bulldogs to town for a rivalry showdown. The Lady Vikings struggled to contain the Lady Bulldogs’ offense, suffering a 56-30 defeat.

The boys’ matchup, however, was the game of the week—a wire-to-wire battle that came down to the final moments. Treutlen stormed out of the gate, leading 17-13 after the first quarter and extending that lead to 3727 at the halftime break.

The momentum shifted in the third quarter as Wheeler began to chip away at the deficit, narrowing the gap to 5448 heading into the final frame. The fourth quarter saw a furious surge from the visitors, propelling the Bulldogs to a thrilling 71-69 comeback victory, leaving the Vikings stunned after leading for the majority of the contest. vs. ECI

The Vikings looked to rebound on Saturday against ECI. The Lady Vikings continued to struggle offensively, unable to slow down ECI in a 59-25 loss.

The story was different for the boys, who took out their frustrations from Friday night’s close loss on the Bulldogs of ECI. It was all Treutlen from tip-off to final buzzer, as the Vikings rolled to an easy 70-23 victory, securing their lone win of the week in convincing fashion.

The Vikings will look to build on Saturday’s momentum as they prepare for next week’s schedule.

This week Treutlen hosted Telfair County on Tuesday after presstime. They will play Wilcox County at home on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and then will play Montgomery County on the road on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
