Tough Week For MCHS Eagles

It was a grueling week for the Montgomery County High School basketball teams, who faced a gauntlet of three games in five days. Despite hardfought efforts on the hardwood, the Eagles and Lady Eagles struggled to find their rhythm against Claxton, Wheeler County, and Toombs County, finishing the week with a combined 1-5 record. vs. Claxton

The week opened on a high note Tuesday night as Montgomery County hosted the Claxton Tigers. The Lady Eagles secured what would become the only win of the week for MCHS, battling to a 41-31 victory over the Lady Tigers.

In the nightcap, the boys faced a high-scoring Claxton offense. Despite their efforts to keep pace, the Eagles fell to the Tigers, 80-58. vs. Wheeler County

On Friday, the Eagles hosted the Wheeler County Bulldogs. The girls’ game proved difficult from the start, as Wheeler County’s offense rolled over the Lady Eagles, handing MCHS a tough 66-10 loss.

The boys’ matchup was a much tighter contest. The Eagles battled back and forth with the Bulldogs in a game that came down to the wire. However, Wheeler County managed to hold on in the final minutes, edging out the Eagles 66-61. vs. Toombs County

The week concluded Saturday with a rivalry matchup against Toombs County. In the girls' game, the Lady Bulldogs asserted dominance from the tipoff, cruising to a decisive 53-27 win over the Lady Eagles. The final game of the week saw the MCHS boys look promising early against the Bulldogs. The Eagles led 12-9 after the first quarter and carried a 23-19 advantage into halftime. However, the momentum shifted after the break. Toombs County came out firing in the third quarter, erasing the deficit to take a 38-33 lead. The Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth to hand the Eagles a 61-47 defeat.

The Lady Eagles are 1-16 on the season and 0-6 in the Region. The boys are 5-12 on the year and are 3-3 in Region play. This week They hosted Wilcox County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back on the courst on Friday at Hawkinsville at 6:00 p.m. and will wrap up the week at Pierce County on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
