The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested a Lyons man last week on a single charge of sexual exploitation of children.
Jared Anthony Collins, 33, of Lyons was arrested last week after the GBI Child Exploitative and Computer Crimes Unit’s investigation of Collins. The investigation into Collins’ online activity was sparked after an anonymous source provided the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children CyberTipline with a report that Collins may be in possession of or distributing child sexual abuse material.
The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office assisted the GBI with the apprehension of Collins, and he was booked in the Toombs County Detention Center.
This case is one of many investigations as a part of ongoing effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which is housed within the Child Exploitative and Community Crimes Unit. This Task Force was created by the United States Department of Justice in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the internet, the proliferation of child sexual abuse material, and heightened online activity by predators searching for unsupervised contact with underage victims. The Force serves to identify individuals involved with the trade of child sexual abuse material.
Individuals with any information about or suspicion of child exploitation should contact the GBI Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit at (404) 270-8870, or by submitting a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at Cyber-Tipline at cybertipline.org. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to the GBI by calling 1 (800) 897-TIPS (8477), online at the GBI website, or through the See Something, Say Something app.
