The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons women’s wrestling team hosted the Andrew College Fighting Tigers at Gillis Gymnasium on January 12, 2026. The Barons defeated the Fighting Tigers 27-10 in a thrilling Senior Day showdown.
The Barons got the evening kicked off in fashion after honoring senior Diandra Tejada, who quickly started the match, earning a technical fall to claim an early lead. The Barons then had Tashayla West earn another technical fall victory to extend their early lead. The Fighting Tigers surged back, claiming the next match with a fall victory before Tanjer Smith answered with a fall victory for the Barons. The Barons then had Kathleen Fisher win via technical fall before Briyanna Peralta and Tiana Fries grabbed fall victories to close out the night.
Head Coach Josh Sturgill shared his thoughts on the team's performance, saying, “There was something special in the air tonight. The energy from our fans was awesome, and it absolutely ignited the fire in our team to go out and put on a show at home. Our ladies stepped up and committed to the techniques that we’ve been focusing on, and they were paying off for them! I think it was a solid way to kick off the spring semester, the new year, and a great lead into probably our biggest regular season competition next week.” The Barons will be back in action on January 23, 2026, at the Indiana Tech Warrior Open in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Barons will look to keep their momentum rolling into the remainder of their season.
