Sally D. Meadows Elementary School held their annual school spelling bee on January 9, where it was Fifth Grader Avery Montford who came out on top.

Recently, students in third through fifth grades competed in classroom spelling bees to identify the top spellers in each grade. The winners of these smaller spelling bees went on to compete head-to-head in the school’s spelling bee, which was organized by Sally D. Meadows Elementary School Teacher Jaya Robinson.

A total of 18 students showcased their spelling abilities during the competition, but it was Fifth Grade Student Avery Montford who outlasted the rest and claimed victory by correctly spelling the word “mustache.”

Along with Montford, special recognition was given to two other finalists – Third Grader Jru Brown, who took home second place, and Fifth Grader Ja’Naylaa Simmons, who earned third place.
