votes in the November 4 election. In the November 4 election, Griggers, Johnson, and Shell went headto- head for a chance to represent Ward 1. Griggers received 9 votes, Johnson received 30 votes, and Shell received 38 votes – no one received the required 51% total of ballots cast. Because of this, a runoff election was called, as Johnson and Shell were set to run against each other to determine who would take the Council seat in January. On December 2, Shell defeated Johnson by 5 votes, as Shell received 35 votes and Johnson received 30 votes.

Shell was sworn into office by Toombs County Probate Judge Tina Lindsey. His term will last until December 31, 2030.

During the January 6 meeting, Council Members Cathy Benton and John Moore Jr. reaffirmed their commitment to serve the city’s citizens on the council, as they were sworn in for a new term. These new terms will also conclude December 31, 2030.
