Bulldogs Pick Up Pair of Wins
The Wheeler County High School boys basketball team had a successful weekend, picking up a road win over Hawkinsville on Friday before returning home to defeat Telfair County on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs struggled in their Saturday matchup, falling to the Lady Trojans. Boys vs. Hawkinsville
On Friday night, the Bulldogs traveled to Hawkinsville to take on the Red Devils in a defensive battle. It was a lowscoring affair early, with Wheeler holding a slim 10-6 lead at the end of the first period. The offense remained tight in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs managed to head into the locker room with an 18-14 advantage.
The Red Devils fought back in the third, cutting the Wheeler lead to just a single basket at 32-30. However, the Bulldogs found their rhythm in the final period, pulling away down the stretch to secure the 46-39 region victory.
Girls vs. Telfair
On Saturday in Alamo, the Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Trojans of Telfair County. The game began as a defensive struggle, with Telfair leading 6-3 after the first quarter and holding a narrow 13-9 advantage at halftime.
The momentum shifted entirely in the second half. The Lady Trojans exploded offensively in the third quarter, extending their lead to 2716. Telfair continued to pull away in the fourth, outscoring Wheeler significantly to seal a 50-20 win.
Boys vs. Telfair
In the final game of the weekend, the Bulldogs hosted the Trojans. Wheeler jumped out to a 10-7 lead after the first quarter and extended that margin to 20-13 by the halftime break.
The third quarter proved decisive for the Bulldogs. They dominated the period, stretching their lead to a commanding 42-22. Wheeler cruised through the fourth quarter to cap off the weekend with a decisive 55-32 victory.
This week the Bulldogs were at Wilcox County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at Montgomery County at 6:00 p.m., and finish off the week at home on Saturday against Dooly County at 3:00 p.m.
