Bulldogs Drop Region Contests
It was a tough week on the hardwood for the Toombs County High School Bulldogs basketball teams as both the girls and boys teams suffered losses at home against the Swainsboro Tigers on Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs then traveled to Savannah on Friday, falling to St. Vincent’s Academy.
Girls vs. Swainsboro
In the opening game on Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm against the Lady Tigers. Swainsboro jumped out to a 17-9 lead by the end of the first period and extended that advantage to 33-18 at halftime.
Despite a strong individual performance from Arianna Hill, who led Toombs with 21 points, the Lady Bulldogs couldn't close the gap. Swainsboro pushed the lead to 48-27 ending the third quarter and cruised to a 58-35 victory.
Boys vs. Swainsboro
The boys' game proved to be a tighter defensive battle. The Bulldogs and Tigers were deadlocked at 9-9 after the first quarter. Swainsboro managed to create some separation in the second, taking a 25-19 lead into the break.
Toombs County fought back in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to a single possession at 33-30. However, the Tigers held off the rally in the final period to secure a 46-39 win.
Girls vs. St. Vincent's On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs were on the road against the Saints of St. Vincent's. Arianna Hill continued her hot streak, pouring in a game-high 24 points to pace the offense. Despite Hill’s offensive production, Toombs County was unable to overtake the Saints, eventually falling by a score of 51-41.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 3-10 on the season and they are 0-4 in Region play. The boys are 10-5 overall and are 1-2 in the Region. This week Toombs hosted Dublin on Tuesday after presstime. They will be in action on Friday at home against Vidalia at 6:00 p.m. and then will host the Eagles of Montgomery County on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
