Wheeler Bulldogs Sweep Rival Treutlen Vikings
The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs enjoyed a successful night on the hardwood as they swept their rivals, the Treutlen County Vikings, in a pair of convincing victories. Both the Lady Bulldogs and the Bulldogs controlled their respective games from the opening tip to the final buzzer.
Girls
In the girls' matchup, the Lady Bulldogs put on a defensive clinic while finding plenty of offensive rhythm. Nikita James was the standout star of the evening, pouring in 26 points to lead the charge for Wheeler.
The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time establishing dominance, jumping out to a 16-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. The defense continued to stifle the Lady Vikings in the second period, allowing Wheeler to extend their advantage to 28-10 heading into the halftime break.
The third quarter proved to be the decisive stretch where Wheeler pulled away completely. They outscored Treutlen significantly to build a massive 48-11 lead. With the game well in hand, the Lady Bulldogs coasted through the final frame to seal the 61-17 victory.
Boys
The boys' game followed a similar script, though with a much higher offensive output. The Bulldogs came out firing, putting up 30 points in just the first quarter to take a 30-18 lead.
Wheeler kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter, widening the gap to 50-32 by halftime. The Vikings attempted to rally in the third quarter, managing to keep pace with Wheeler's scoring and closing the gap slightly to 69-52. However, the Bulldogs' early lead proved too difficult to overcome. Wheeler finished strong in the fourth, securing an easy 90-64 win to complete the nightly sweep for Wheeler County.
