Eagles Split Region Matchup with Telfair Co.

The Montgomery County High School basketball teams experienced mixed results last week as they hosted the Telfair County Trojans for a crucial region clash. While the Lady Eagles struggled against a dominant Lady Trojans squad, the boys’ team provided the home crowd with a thrilling finish, securing a narrow victory.

Girls It was a tough night on the hardwood for the Lady Eagles, as Telfair County controlled the tempo from the opening tip. The Lady Trojans’ offense fired on all cylinders early, establishing a 19-5 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Montgomery County struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the second quarter, allowing the deficit to grow. By halftime, Telfair had pushed their advantage to 36-10, leaving the Lady Eagles with a steep hill to climb. The second half saw the Lady Trojans pull away completely to seal a 70-18 victory.

Boys

The boys’ game offered a stark contrast, delivering a competitive battle that came down to the final moments. The Eagles and Trojans traded baskets in a high-intensity matchup, but Montgomery County managed to execute down the stretch.

In a game where every possession mattered, the Eagles held their composure to pull out a hardfought 77-74 win over Telfair County, defending their home court and adding a gritty win to their resume.

This week the Eagles will take on Treutlen on Saturday in Soperton at 6:00 p.m.
