Vikings Win Over Red Devils
The Treutlen County High School Vikings basketball teams faced a rigorous schedule this week, hosting three games in Soperton. The Vikings boys' team secured a hard-fought victory against Hawkinsville, while the Lady Vikings suffered two tough losses, including a heartbreaking overtime defeat against Jenkins County. On Tuesday, the Vikings hosted the Red Devils of Hawkinsville in a competitive matchup. Treutlen started strong, holding a narrow 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The game remained tight through the second period, with the Vikings maintaining a 2826 advantage at halftime.
Treutlen found some breathing room in the third quarter, extending their lead to 50-46. They managed to keep that momentum in the final period, closing out the game for a 65-59 victory.
Girls vs. Jenkins Co.
The Lady Vikings returned to the court on Friday to host the Jenkins County Lady War Eagles. Treutlen controlled the early tempo, leading 1210 after the first quarter and taking a 20-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Vikings surged in the third quarter, going on a significant run to open up a 35-24 lead. However, Jenkins County mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring Treutlen to tie the game at 40-40 and force overtime. In the extra period, Jenkins County managed to grab the lead and held on for a narrow 46-45 win.
Girls vs. ECI
On Saturday, the Lady Vikings were back in action against the Emanuel County Institute Lady Bulldogs. It proved to be a difficult outing for Treutlen, as ECI controlled the game and pulled away for a decisive 56-22 victory.
Both the boys and girls are off this week with the boys back in action next Tuesday at Warren County at 7:30 p.m.
