From Texas Margaret’s recipe binder titled, “It’s All Good”

3 cups sugar, divided into 2 cups and 1 cup

1 cup milk

1 tsp vanilla

1 tbsp butter

1 cup chopped pecans Put 1 cup sugar in a large iron skillet and melt, stirring constantly. Mixture should start to brown lightly; be very careful not to burn. At the same time, heat 2 cups sugar and 1 cup milk in a saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved and mixture ALMOST comes to a boil. Add milk mixture to melted sugar in iron skillet, stirring until well mixed. Cook to soft-ball stage. Add pecans, butter and vanilla. Beat until smooth and pour into a buttered, square 8-inch pan. Cool and cut into small pieces.
