An armed robber remains on the loose as law enforcement continues to search for a man accused of assaulting an elderly woman and attempting to steal drugs from her home on Tuesday afternoon, December 9. At 12:59 p.m. on December 9, Toombs County 911 Dispatch received a call from the victim – an elderly woman who lives on Currie Road in Uvalda – who told dispatchers that an unknown white male forced his way into her house. The caller explained that once in the home, the offender began searching for drugs and ultimately assaulted the woman with a weapon before exiting through the home’s back door.

Deputies, investigators, and Georgia Department of Corrections Southeast Region Criminal Investigation Department Unit Special Agents quickly rushed to the scene and established a perimeter in attempt to contain the offender. Deputies spoke with the victim, who was accompanied by a neighbor that the victim had called for help prior to calling 911. The victim told law enforcement officers that the offender was a white male with blonde, disheveled hair, who was wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans.

The elderly lady received medical aid from the neighbor, who did the best that they could prior to responders arriving, and then was transported to an off-site location by Toombs- Montgomery EMS. At this location, the paramedics released the victim to Air Evac, where she was flown for treatment in stable condition.

Law enforcement officials from the Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Public Safety Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit, Department of Natural Resources K-9 Unit, and Vidalia Police Department arrived on the scene to canvas the region in search of the offender. Yet, after multiple attempts by the K-9 units to follow the offender’s scent trail, it was determined that no scent could be established for tracking, and the aviation unit could not locate the individual.

With very little evidence at the crime scene, officers were left with very few leads, and the offender remains not captured.

Toombs County Sheriff Jordan Kight said that law enforcement personnel are continuing to patrol the area until the investigation shifts direction or new information emerges. He assures that the agency is doing all that they can to bring justice to the situation, and warns others to take precautionary measures to avoid becoming a victim.

“We ask that you keep your doors to homes, vehicles, and outbuildings locked at all times and remove keys from all vehicles. If you see anyone matching this description, please do not approach, but call 911 immediately,” he remarked.

Kight also shared his gratitude for the abundance of reinforcement that came in to help probe the case. “I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all law enforcement officers and agencies for their prompt response. To have approximately 20 additional law enforcement officers arrive to assist is a blessing for a small office, like Toombs County,” he emphasized.
