TCSO Warns of Phone Scams

The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a current phone scam that is trying to steal money from citizens in the area.

On December 10, deputies explained that they had received numerous reports of fraudulent phone calls, during which callers pretended to be representing the Sheriff’s Office. During these calls, scammers would tell callers that they had arrest warrants, subpoenas, jury duty, or other issues, and would offer to clear the matter up by taking money over the phone.

The Office stated that law enforcement will never contact citizens about these topics, such as arrest warrants and subpoenas, over the phone and will never ask for payment over the phone.

Citizens are urged to be vigilant, help inform their neighbors of the issue, and to avoid providing any payment information to these scammers.
