Toombs County Middle School Teacher Steve McLeod was awarded the last Super Star Teacher award of 2025.
The Super Star Teacher award is an initiative the Chamber began in 2024 to honor the extraordinary teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty, and ultimately, impact lives. The program is overseen by Chamber Director of Operations Amber O’Connor, who spoke on the opportunity.
“The Chamber is excited to be able to offer this program to our community! We couldn’t think of a more deserving group of professionals in our workplace to be recognized for their dedication to students and their community,” she remarked. “A Super Star Teacher demonstrates excellence in leadership in their classroom along with motivation for their students. They show a high level of commitment to not only their students but their community.”
The Chamber collects nominations for the award every month, then nominations are reviewed by monthly sponsors to select a winner, who is presented with the award and prizes during the school day. The sponsors for December’s award were Trane Technologies and Dermatology Associates.
During the presentation, presenters read out the nominations that earned McLeod the award.
“Mr. McLeod is such an inspiration to his students. He is patient with them and he shows passion for his work at all times! He always keeps me informed on my child progress and behavior when she’s not in the ‘normal state’ as he will state,” the anonymous recommender wrote. “That’s big that he notices the kids grades and behavior. Some teachers don’t notice when kids are missing from class let alone their differences in grades and behavior. Go follow him for a day – he’s the best!”
The program will resume to recognize more educators for their outstanding work in January.

AN ATTENTIVE TEACHER – Toombs County Middle School Teacher Steve McLeod was praised for his attentiveness to his students, as the anonymous nominator stated that he informed her when her student was behaving differently from normal. L to R: Trane Technologies Plant Manager Allen Crump, Toombs County Middle School Principal Sidney Spell, Steve McLeod, Trane Technologies Human Resources Leader Sherri Keene, Greater Vidalia Chamber Chair-Elect Tres Herin, Dermatology Associates Office Manager Rhonda Jones.
