Bulldogs Get Win Over Jackets
The Toombs County High School basketball teams faced a challenging weekend schedule, hosting the Savannah Country Day Hornets on Friday before the boys traveled to face the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets on Saturday.
Girls vs. Country Day
On Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs struggled to contain the Savannah Country Day offense, falling to the Hornets 62-44.
Despite the loss, Toombs County saw strong offensive production from Arianna Hill, who led the team with 16 points. Taylor Bland also contributed double figures, adding 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Boys vs. Country Day
The boys’ matchup on Friday was a tightly contested battle that came down to the final buzzer. The Hornets took an early advantage, leading 14-10 after the first quarter and extending that lead to 3522 by halftime.
Toombs County rallied in the second half, cutting the deficit to 46-39 by the end of the third period. The Bulldogs continued to fight in the fourth but came up just short, losing 57-54.
Offensively, the Bulldogs were powered by Parker Stanley and Cornelius Bullard, who each put up 18 points in the narrow loss.
Boys vs. SE Bulloch
The Bulldogs bounced back into the win column on Saturday against the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets. Toombs County jumped out quickly, taking a 12-7 lead in the first period and holding a 29-21 advantage at the break.
The Jackets attempted a comeback in the third quarter, narrowing the gap to 36-32, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the final frame to secure a 50-41 victory.
Stanley led the scoring effort for the second night in a row with 18 points. Bullard added 13 points, and Tucker Braddy rounded out the scoring leaders with 10.
This week Toombs will be at Montgomery County on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and then will host Tattnall County on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
