Tough Week For Vikings

It was a demanding week for the Treutlen County High School basketball teams as they faced a gauntlet of opponents in Metter, Swainsboro, and Johnson County. Despite several competitive stretches and a comeback bid that forced overtime, both the Vikings and Lady Vikings struggled to find the win column.

Vikings vs. Metter

The boys hosted the Metter Tigers on Tuesday in a thriller that required extra time. Metter opened quickly, jumping out to a 21-9 lead in the first quarter. The Vikings responded aggressively in the second, erasing the deficit to knot the score at 34-34 by halftime.

Treutlen surged ahead in the third, taking a 55-50 lead, but the Tigers rallied in the fourth to tie the game at 65-65. In overtime, Metter controlled the pace, outscoring the Vikings 11-3 to secure a 76-68 victory.

Vikings at Swainsboro

The road trip to Swainsboro proved difficult for both squads against the Tigers. The Lady Vikings fell into an early 22-4 hole after the first quarter and ultimately fell 87-13. The boys faced a similar start, trailing 28-8 after the first period, resulting in an 83-34 loss.

Vikings at Johnson Co.

The teams traveled to Johnson County to close out the week against the Trojans. The Lady Vikings showed improvement on the offensive end but dropped the contest 61-48. The boys capped the week with another tight battle, fighting until the final buzzer but coming up just short in a 67-64 loss.

It will be another busy week this week for Treutlen. The Vikings hosted Dooly County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at home at 6:00 p.m. against Warren County, and will wrap up the week on Satuday at East Laurens at 5:00 p.m.
