Optim Medical Center-TattnaU Recognizes Exceptional Care with First DAISY and BEE Awards
Optim Medical Center- Tattnall recognized two team members for providing high-quality clinical care and meaningful support to patients and colleagues, presenting its first DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses and BEE Award for Extraordinary Nursing Support.
Rebecca “Becky” Strickland, RN, received the DAISY Award based on a nomination from a colleague who witnessed the level of care she delivered to a post-operative patient in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. Strickland, a PACU nurse at Optim since 2006, cared for a patient who arrived disoriented, frightened and in tears. Her colleague described how Strickland assessed the patient, recognized her distress, and guided her through recovery with clinical expertise, clear communication and steady reassurance. She remained with the patient until she was stable enough for transfer and ensured the patient s concerns were addressed. Her colleague noted that the combination of skill, attentiveness and professionalism she demonstrated reflects the standards the DAISY Award is meant to honor.
Ashley “Brooke” Stapleton, a respiratory therapist who joined the hospital in 2014, received the BEE Award based on a nomination from a colleague who highlighted her reliable support of both patients and clinical teams. According to the nomination, Stapleton routinely assists with complex respiratory needs, helps stabilize anxious or short-of-breath patients, explains treatment plans to families and collaborates closely with nurses and physicians during high-acuity moments. Her colleague shared that she consistently steps in to help without being asked and that her technical knowledge and teamwork strengthen patient care across the hospital. The DAISY and BEE awards recognize caregivers whose actions demonstrate the highest standards of clinical excellence, communication and patientcentered care. The DAISY Award honors nurses who deliver outstanding professional practice. The BEE Award recognizes individuals who support nursing and patient care in ways that improve quality, safety and the overall care environment.
“Recognizing caregivers in this way is an important part of celebrating the people who shape the patient experience,” said Lora Duncan, System Chief Nursing and Clinical Officer for Optim Health System. “Becky and Brooke uphold our standards for high-quality care and strong clinical teamwork.
Their dedication directly contributes to positive outcomes for our patients.”
Nominations for both awards are accepted yearround from patients, families, visitors and staff. To nominate a caregiver, visit DAISY and BEE Award Nominations and complete the online form.
