Mistletoe On Main Market Brings Christmas Cheer

Toombs County Special Education Department is gearing up for their annual Mistletoe on Main Christmas Market event, which is sure to bring Christmas cheer to all who attend.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Toombs County Ag Center, located on Quint Shrine Road, on Thursday, December 4, as students, community organizations, and outside vendors transform the Center into a festive main street shopping center.

Students with special needs from all grades – Preschool Intervention Program (PIP) until 12th grade – work to make baked goods, crafts, and more to sell at the event. The goal of this event is to help provide students with skills that will prepare them for transition into life after high school. “At Toombs County Schools, we believe that transition to life after high school begins in the first years of school,” Superintendent Barry Waller emphasized. “Our Mistletoe on Main market teaches students to be entrepreneurs, which is very valuable because entrepreneurship and self-employment can be a valuable and viable option for people with disabilities looking to enter the job market.” Some items made by the students that will be for sale include tumblers, candles, treat bags, ornaments, door hangers, wood crafts, baked goods, and more. In addition to this, several outside vendors will be set up at the event.

“We are excited about our third annual Mistletoe on Main Market,” Toombs County Special Education Director Sabrina Woodruff remarked. “The teachers and students have been working hard this year and are excited to see everyone. Please come out and support our amazing students!”
