Lyons Ward 1 residents will have the chance to return to the polls to cast their ballots for their choice of representative, as incumbent Ward 1 City Councilman Tracy Johnson and opponent James Shell face off to determine who will serve on the Council for the upcoming term. On November 4, former City Councilman Larry Griggers, incumbent City Councilman Tracy Johnson, and James Shell went head-to-head for a chance to represent Ward 1. Griggers received 9 votes, Johnson received 30 votes, and Shell received 38 votes – no one received the required 51% total of ballots cast. Because of this, a runoff election was called, as Johnson and Shell were set to run against each other to determine who will take the Council seat in January.
Early voting for this run-off election began on November 20 and continued until November 26; no Saturday advanced voting dates were held.
The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2. For more information on the polling location, call the Toombs County Board of Elections at (912) 5268226, or visit mvp.sos. ga.gov.
