The Wheeler County Board of Elections completed a recount of the Alamo City Council election ballots on Friday, November 14, and solidified the winners of the election.
This recount was requested after a single vote separated two candidates, both of which were vying for the last vacant seat on the Alamo City Council.
On Election night, November 4, the Wheeler County Board of Elections and Registration reported that Incumbent City Councilwoman Patricia Woodard and Councilman Geoffrey Villegas, Angelia Wright, and Ty’Quez Smith threw their names in the hat to represent the citizens of Alamo during the recent election. Wright received 102 votes (36.69%), Woodard received 77 votes (27.70%), Villegas received 50 votes (17.99%), and Smith received 49 votes (17.63%). Because of the single-vote margin between Villegas and Smith, a recount of the ballots was requested and completed last week.
Wheeler County Elections Superintendent Kayla Cheek stated that after the recount, the results remained the same. She clarified that Wright, Woodard, and Villegas would take the available seats on the Council, as she quoted Section 5.04 of the Alamo City Charter, which states, 'The person receiving a plurality of the votes cast for any city office shall be elected. The top three candidates for city council seats with the highest number of votes shall prevail.”
Wright, Woodard, and Villegas will begin their new terms on January 1, 2026.
