morning. These vehicles – a 2001 Ford Excursion and a 2017 Ford F-250 – were left running while parked for around one hour in the area.

After an hour, the landowner rode by the area on a golfcart and noticed that vehicles had caught fire. Moser said that it was determined that the combination of the vehicle’s motor’s heat and the tall grass sparked the blaze first on the Ford F-250 pickup truck, which then caused the 2001 Excursion to also catch fire.

Because of the extensive amount of burning on the underside of the Ford F-250, the vehicle lost its capability to remain in park, causing it to roll across the road and catch the adjacent land on fire. Moser stated that this blaze was the most dangerous fire in the situation, as it directly endangered a nearby home. “Thankfully, we were able to get the fire put out without any damage to nearby structures,” he explained.

A total of 6.5 acres was burnt during the fire and the vehicles were deemed a total loss. Moser thanked the Montgomery State Prison Fire Department and Uvalda Fire Departments for assisting Toombs County Fire Department with the situation.
