Students in Mrs. Bridges' 4th Grade Science class at Wheeler County Elemtary School have been learning all about the Water Cycle. They were able to get an up-close look by completing 'The Water Cycle in a Jar' activity. This allowed students to see each part of the water cycle step by step.

Students have learned that the Sun controls the water cycle. Mrs. Bridges used a burner (the Sun) to heat water. She then poured the water in a jar and sealed the top of the jar with a cup of ice. Students learned that heated water will evaporate and become water vapor (gas). When the water vapor rises, it cools down and turns into drops of water creating a cloud (condensation). As the water droplets get heavier and heavier, they will eventually fall back to the collection of water at the bottom of the jar as rain (precipitation). The process begins again.

To show an understanding of the Water Cycle, students had to illustrate and label the process. They also had to write an explanation of their illustration.
