The No. 2-ranked Toombs County High School Bulldogs football team continued their dominant 2025 campaign Friday night, cruising past the Savannah Country Day Hornets 42-7 in The Pit. With the win, Toombs improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in Region 3-A D1 play.

The Bulldogs wasted no time asserting control. Senior running back Justin Powell capped the opening drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to give Toombs a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter. From there, the Bulldogs’ trademark “Red Bullet” defense shut down the Hornets, forcing quick punts and turnovers that gave the offense excellent field position.

The second quarter belonged entirely to Toombs. Sophomore Nick Carroll punched in a 1-yard score, followed by 2 more touchdown runs from Powell, and a 17-yard sprint to the end zone by junior Alex Scott. By halftime, the Bulldogs had built a commanding 35-0 advantage.

With a running clock in the second half, the Bulldogs turned to their reserves, and junior Zay Walton made the most of his opportunity—breaking free for a 59-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to push the margin to 42-0. Savannah Country Day managed a late score, but it was far too little, too late.

The Red Bullet defense once again lived up to its name, holding the Hornets to just 1 touchdown and controlling the line of scrimmage throughout the night.

The Bulldogs now turn their attention to arch-rival Vidalia, traveling just up the road for 1 of the state’s most heated rivalries. Toombs has won 4 straight over the Indians. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
