Indians Play Tough Against Tigers


The Vidalia High School Indians varsity football team fell to the #4 ranked Tigers of Swainsboro last Friday night by a final score of 35-20.
The Indians came out strong, taking a slim 12-8 lead into halftime. However, the second half saw the Tigers' offense seize control, powered mostly by a strong and sustained rushing attack that proved too much for Vidalia to overcome.
After Vidalia kicked off to start the third quarter, the momentum shifted decisively. The Tigers wasted no time moving down the field and extending their lead. Approximately 7 minutes into the quarter, Swainsboro reached the end zone on a rushing touchdown, followed by a successful point after attempt, making the score to 15-12.
The Tigers’ forward drive continued, capitalizing on their ground game. With about 2 minutes remaining in the third, Swainsboro scored another rushing touchdown. The point after attempt on this score was missed, but they now lead 21-12. Following a Vidalia turnover on downs, which gave Swainsboro possession deep in Indian territory at the Vidalia 32-yard line, the Tigers were in a prime position to strike again. Swainsboro turned the field position into another rushing touchdown. The successful point after pushed their lead to 28-12. A couple of minutes later, the Tigers added 1 more rushing touchdown and made point after, increasing their lead to 35-12.
Despite the large deficit, Vidalia managed to push back just before the close of the quarter. With less than a minute on the clock, the Indians punched in a rushing touchdown to narrow the margin to 3518.
The game entered the final period with the score standing at Swainsboro 35, Vidalia 18. The Indians' defense held firm in the fourth, preventing any further Swainsboro scores. In the closing moments of the game, Vidalia was able to force a safety with under a minute remaining, bringing the final score to 35-20.
The loss drops the Vidalia Indians' season record to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the region. This week the Indians will have another tough task as they host their rival, the Toombs County Bulldogs, who are currently ranked #2 in the state. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
