TCHS Splits Final Regular Season Games

The Toombs County Varsity Lady Bulldogs softball team fell to the Lady Pirates of Appling County on Monday, but bounced back with a massive win over the Lady Tigers of Metter on Tuesday. vs. Appling Co.

On Monday, October 6, the Lady Bulldogs dropped a close game on the road, losing to Appling County 4-2.

Toombs County opened the scoring in the third inning after Taylor Bland singled, bringing in 1 run. Appling County quickly tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third following a Toombs County error.

The Lady Bulldogs briefly regained the lead in the top of the fourth when Kylah Gay grounded out, scoring a run to make it 2-1. Appling County tied the game at 2-2 in he bottotm of the fourth inning, and then took the lead in the sixth inning with 2 more runs. Appling held in the seventh inning to take the win, 4-2. vs. Metter

The Lady Bulldogs offense came alive on Tuesday, dominating the Metter Lady Tigers for a commanding 14-7 victory.

Metter opened the scoring in the first, but the Lady Bulldogs captured the lead, scoring three runs to go up 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning. The scoring started with Natalie Quintero doubling to center field, followed by an RBI single from Taylor Bland, and an RBI double down the left field line by Saige White, with each hit scoring 1 run.

The Lady Bulldogs added to their lead in the second inning after an error by Metter, followed by an RBI double from Lindy Morris and an RBI single from Taylor Bland. That pushed the lead to 6- 1.

Metter did score 4 more runs in the top of the fourth inning, but another run in the bottom of the fourth by TCHS and then the Toombs County offense sealed the victory in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring 5 runs on 4 hits. Lindy Morris doubled to score 2 runs, Taylor Bland singled to score 1 run, Saige White doubled to score 1 run, and Elly Haygood singled, bringing in the final run of the inning. That gave the Bulldogs a 12-5 lead.

Metter plated 2 more runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the Bulldogs answered with 2 in the bottom of the frame on the way to the 14-7 victory.

The week closes out the regular season for Toombs with an overall record of 17-7, and they are 7-2 in Region action. This week the Bulldogs will kick off the State Playoffs on Wednesday with Oglethorpe County's Lady Patriots coming to Lyons. They will play a best-of-three series with the first game of a double header on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. If necessary they will play a third game on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
