The Vidalia High School Indians football team battled the visiting Raiders of Savannah Christian on Friday night at Buck Cravey Field, but ultimately fell to the Region foe by a score of 3714.

The Raiders wasted no time establishing control, scoring early and often in the first half to take a commanding lead. After receiving the opening kickoff, Savannah Christian struck on its first possession with a 60-yard passing touchdown, though the extra point was missed, making it 6-0. Later in the quarter, the Raiders found the end zone again with a rushing touchdown and a good PAT to push the lead to 13-0 with just 2 minutes remaining in the first.

Savannah Christian extended its lead in the second quarter. After the Indians' drive stalled on the Raiders' 16-yard line for a turnover on downs, Savannah Christian drove the field and scored on a passing touchdown followed by a good PAT, moving the score to 20-0. The Raiders added a field goal as the half wound down, sending the teams into the locker room with the Indians trailing 23-0.

Vidalia showed heart and explosiveness coming out of halftime. On the Indians’ first possession of the third quarter, Andre Jackson took the ball 90 yards to the house for a spectacular rushing touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed, but the run injected life into the home crowd and put Vidalia on the board, 23-6. Savannah Christian answered later in the quarter with another rushing touchdown and a successful PAT, pushing the score to 30-6 at the end of the third.

The Indians again found the end zone in the final quarter when Alton Boles punched it in from 2 yards out for a rushing touchdown. The Indians successfully converted the 2-point conversion, as Andre Jackson rushed the ball in to make the score 30-14, giving the Indians a fighting chance with about 8 minutes to go.

Unfortunately for the home team, Savannah Christian quickly responded with another rushing touchdown and extra point, extending their lead to 37-14. The Indians were unable to close the gap on their final possessions, and the Raiders ran out the clock to secure the 37-14 victory.

VHS is now 1-6 on the season and they are 0-1 in Region play. This week they will be on the road the take on the Tigers of Swainsboro with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
