The Wheeler County Public Library is proud to announce that they are offering the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program, which encourages families to read together daily.
This ongoing program celebrates children and parents for encouraging literacy in the home, as children strive to complete as many books as possible before entering kindergarten. Hitting the milestone of 1,000 books prior to reaching kindergarten is possible, as library states that if families read one book each night, they will have read 1,095 books in 3 years, and if the family reads three books a night – totaling around 15 minutes – they will have read more than 1,000 books in a single year.
The library emphasized the importance of reading with young children, as the facility’s administrators explained that reading aloud helps children develop stronger language skills, sparks creativity, and prepares them for school. In addition to this, reading together creates special family moments that foster deeper connections and trust.
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is available to all children who have not yet started kindergarten. To join the program, pick up a paper to track the number of books read at the Wheeler County Public Library, or use the Beanstack website to track books digitally at www.orls. beanstack.org.
