as her father Daniel Patrick and grandfather Dan Patrick are both very active in barbecue competitions. The Real Squeal Backyard BBQ Competition was the second competition she has ever participated in, and the first actual contest where she cooked ribs and chicken.

Patrick shared her gratitude to her uncle Ryan King with Kings BBQ in Jacksonville, Florida, as King sponsored his niece and provided rubs and sauces for her food. She also thanked Rub Bagby from Winter Haven, Florida, for making sure she had what she needed as well.

She emphasized that she is ready for the next competition and hopefully, more prize money. She is excited to return to the Real Squeal BBQ & Music Festival next year in hopes of tying her father’s record, as he has won the Real Squeal Backyard BBQ Competition twice.

Smoke Street BBQ was trailing at the young chef’s heels, as the team ultimately took home the title of Backyard BBQ Reserve Champion.

The Professional Barbecue Competition was fierce, with multiple scores nearing perfection and a few hitting that coveted

180-point mark. Yet, ultimately, it was Hickory Barbeque Company that took home the title of Professional Competition Grand Champion.

Though the team is normally composed of Hickory Barbeque Company Master Griller Noel Kay and his wife, Kay took on the competition by himself this year, as he traveled from Shelby, North Carolina, to compete in his third Real Squeal Professional BBQ Competition.

“It’s always a good time, and it’s a good festival,” Kay remarked about the Real Squeal. “We’ll be back next year.”

When asked about his favorite part of competitive barbequing, Kay remarked that it’s the relationships formed with other professionals that keeps him ready to light the grill for the next competition. “It’s the best part – the grilling is fun, and winning is great, but to be with your friends is everything,” he emphasized. “There’s a special bond between all of these teams and even though we like to win the prize, we also cheer on our friends and wish them the best, too.”

Festival newcomers Cocamoke Smoke BBQ took home the Professional Reserve Champion prize, establishing their dominance in the competitive environment.

It was County Line Swine’s delectable barbeque sauce that blew the judges away in the sauce competition, as their entry made its way to the top of the leaderboard. Results Overall Professional Competition Results
