4 Wins For Lady Bulldogs

It was a big week for the Lady Bulldogs softball team of Toombs County High School as they picked up 4 wins, 3 of those Region contests, as the regular season is winding down. Toombs is now 16-6 on the season and they are 7-2 in Region play, sitting in second place behind Vidalia going into the final week.

Last week the Bulldogs beat Johnson County on Monday in a nonregion game, then swept a double header from Savannah Christian, and wrapped up the week with a close win over the Lady Tigers of Swainsboro. vs. Johnson Co.

It was a slug fest as the two teams combined for 25 runs, with Toombs on top by just one run.

Johnson took the early lead with 2 runs in the top of the first inning, but Toombs stormed out of the gate with Toombs plating 5 runs on 5 hits to take a 5-2 lead over the Lady Trojans. Johnson added 2 more in the top of the second inning to close the lead to 5-4, and then they took the lead over the Bulldogs in the top of the third inning with 4 more runs. That put Johnson on top, 8-5.

In the bottom of the third inning, Natalie Quintero came through with a sacrifice fly and then a big 2-run home run by Taylor Bland tied the game at 8-8. Toombs then took a 10-8 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a 2-run home run by Quintero.

Johnson tied the game at 10-10 in the top of the fifth inning, but the Bulldogs came up in the bottom of the frame and plated 3 more runs. Lindy Morris picked up an RBI single, Mishi Smith drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and then after loading up the bases, Cyleigh Ennis was hit by a pitch to bring in another run and give the Bulldogs a 13-10 lead.

Johnson did manage to score 2 more in the top of the seventh inning, but Toombs was able to get the final out and take the win, 13-12. vs. Savannah Christian Game 1 TCHS got on the board in the top of the third inning with a 2-run single by Natalie Quintero. They added another run in the third to take a 3-0 lead over the Lady Raiders. Toombs added 3 more runs in the fourth inning and 3 more in the fifth as they built up a 9-0 lead.

Toombs held in the bottom of the fifth to take the game by the run rule, 9- 0.

Game 2

This was a much closer game, but Toombs found a way to take the win. The Bulldogs jumped out with 3 runs in the top of the first inning, but Savannah picked up 2 runs in the bottom of second to close the lead to 3-2.

The Bulldogs added 2 more in the top of the third inning on a triple by Taylor Bland and an RBI single from Sage White. But Savannah plated another in the fourth to make the score 5-3.

TCHS picked up 2 more in the top of the fifth inning, but the Raiders scored 3 in the bottom half of the frame as Toombs held a 1-run, 7-6 lead. In the top of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs scored 2 more insurance runs on the way to a 9-6 win over the Lady Raiders. vs. Swainsboro

It took some extrainning heroics from Taylor Bland to take the win in 8 innings for the Bulldogs.

Toombs took the early lead with 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lindy Morris had the big hit of the inning with a 2-RBI single. Neither team scored again until the fifth inning when Swainsboro tied the game at 3-3. That score held until the bottom of the eighth inning when Bland came through with an insidethe- park home run to secure the win for Toombs, 4- 3. The Bulldogs wrapped up their regular season this week as they played Appling County on Monday and Metter on Tuesday, both after presstime.
