2 Wins For Lady Crusaders

The Lady Crusaders softball team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy played 3 games last week and won 2 of them. They played Brentwood Academy on Monday, Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday, and then lost to David Emanuel Academy on Thursday. vs. Brentwood

The Lady Crusaders prevailed in a hard-fought battle that required an extra inning to beat Brentwood on Monday of last week. Robert Toombs Christian Academy initially got on the board in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of an error by the Brentwood Varsity Eagles. RTCA added 2 more runs in the top of the fourth inning and then another in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead over Brentwood.

Brentwood came storming back as they plated 3 runs int eh bottom of the sixth inning and another in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and to force extra innings.

But the Lady Crusaders’ offense took over in the top of the eighth. rallied, scoring five runs on five hits to surge into a dominant 9-4 lead. The biggest blow of the inning was a single by Elin Haygood that drove in 2 runs, cementing the win for the Lady Crusaders.

The Lady Crusaders' offensive attack was led by Mary Frances Stanley, who was a force at the plate all afternoon. Stanley collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, singling in the second, fourth, and eighth innings, consistently putting pressure on the Brentwood defense and helping power Robert Toombs to the 9-5 extra-inning victory. vs. Thomas Jefferson

The RTCA Lady Crusaders followed up their extra-innings win on Monday with a victory on Tuesday, defeating the Lady Jaguars of Thomas Jefferson Academy by a final score of 4-1.

The victory was anchored by a stellar pitching performance from Annabelle Coe, who stepped into the circle and went the distance for the Lady Crusaders. Coe was dominant, surrendering only 1 run on 8 hits over 7 full innings of work. The starter struck out 4 batters and walked only 1, effectively shutting down the Thomas Jefferson Academy offense.

The Lady Crusaders quickly gave Coe a lead to work with, getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Robert Toombs scored 2 runs after a Thomas Jefferson Academy error, and a subsequent line out by Mary Frances Stanley, to put RTCA on top, 2-0.

Stanley contributed again in the third inning, doubling to left field to bring in another run and extend the Lady Crusaders' lead to 3-0.

TJ picked up a run in the top of the fourth inning, but RTCA answered with 1 in the fifth on the way to the 4-1 win. vs. DEA

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Varsity Lady Crusaders varsity softball team suffered a defeat on Thursday, September 25, falling to the David Emanuel Academy Lady Eagles by a score of 4-0.

DEA pitching surrendered just 1 hit and 0 runs over 7 complete innings, striking out 6 batters and walking 3 to secure the shutout victory.

The Lady Crusaders' lone offensive bright spot was Chesney Burch, who recorded the team’s only hit in 2 at-bats, serving as the only player to successfully get on base via a hit.

David Emanuel Academy did all of their scoring early, getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. They scored all 4 four of their runs in the first inning on the way to the win.

RTCA is now 13-7 on the season and they are 7-2 in the Region. This week they played Citizens Christian on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday when they host Vidalia Heritage Academy at 5:30 p.m.. Next week is the final week of the regular season as they wrap up with DEA, Charlton County, and Windsor Academy.
