Tire Amnesty Rolls Out This Week

mrandolphadvance@gmail.com

This week, Toombs County citizens have the opportunity to get rid of their used and unwanted tires through the Scrap Tire Amnesty event, which is being held at the Toombs County Landfill Entrance.

This event is a result of cooperation between the cities of Lyons and Vidalia, Toombs County, and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and is funded through the Georgia Solid Waste Trust Fund, which is supported by a $1 fee charged on all new tire purchases in Georgia. In order to prevent illegal dumping on public and private properties, the Scrap Tire Amnesty Event allows citizens to dispose of their old or unwanted tires for free.

Passenger car tires, light truck tires, and noncommercial tractor trailer/ semi-truck tires without rims will be accepted at the event. Tires from retail dealers or commercial sources (such as farming, logging, etc.), and heavy equipment or skidder tires will not be accepted through this event.

Tires may be dropped off to be disposed for free at the Toombs County Landfill entrance – located next to Georgia Forestry on Georgia Highway 15 in Lyons — from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day, from Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26. No tires will be accepted after 4 p.m. on Friday, September 26, and regular disposal fees will resume on Saturday, September 27.
