Lady Bulldogs Over Swainsboro & Metter

The Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team played three games last week. On Monday they were at the Bears of Pierce County, On Tuesday Toombs was at Swainsboro, and on Thursday they played at Metter. vs. Pierce Co.

The Bulldogs fell on Monday to Pierce. The Bears took the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Bulldogs answered with two in the top of the second to tie the game. TCHS got an RBI single from Londyn Johnson and a sacrifice by Kylah Gay to score those two runs.

In the bottom of the second inning, though, Pierce came back with two more runs to jump ahead, 4-2. They added two more in the third inning, two in the fourth, and two more in the fifth on the way to a 10-2 win over the Lady Bulldogs. vs. Swainsboro

Toombs bounced back on Tuesday with a win over the Lady Tigers of Swainsboro. The Bulldogs got on the board first in the top of the third inning with an RBI single from Emmerson Powell. Natalie Quintero added an RBI double down the right field line to put Toombs on top, 2-0.

Swainsboro plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2, but Quintero came through with another RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to put TCHS up, 3-2. Toombs added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the game, 6-2, over Swainsboro. vs. Metter

The final game of the week for Toombs was against the Lady Tigers of Metter on Wednesday, and they got another big win.

Natalie Quintero drove in five runs on two hits to power Toombs County Varsity Bulldogs past Metter Varsity Tigers 9-5 on Wednesday. Quintero smashed a three-run home run to center field in the second inning and later added a two-run single in the sixth.

Toombs County struck first in the opening frame when Cyleigh Ennis singled to bring in a run. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 5-0 in the second inning, capitalizing on an error before Quintero’s blast cleared the fence. Metter clawed back in the fourth inning, tying the game at 5-5 behind a walk from Brooklyn Lawrence and a two-run double by Emma West.

The Bulldogs answered with authority in the sixth, putting up four runs to retake control. Kylah Gay doubled to drive in one, Quintero singled home two more, and Taylor Bland added an RBI double to make it 9- 5.

Bland earned the win in the circle, allowing 10 hits and five runs (just one earned) across seven innings while striking out six. West took the loss for Metter after giving up five runs in four innings.

Toombs County tallied 11 hits in the game. Quintero and Gay each recorded two hits, while the defense turned a key double play to keep Metter at bay.

“Nat came up huge for us tonight,” Coach Brant said. “That home run was a game-changer, and when they tied it up, we didn’t flinch. We came right back swinging and took it to them — that’s the kind of fight this team is built on.”

This week Toombs took on the Bulldogs of Emanuel County Institute on Monday after presstime. They will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. They will then host rival Vidalia on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. to wrap up the week. With just a couple of weeks left in the regular season, Toombs has a 9-6 overall record, and they are 3-2 in Region play and are in second place behind Vidalia.
