Two Wins For Lady Bulldogs

The Lady Bulldogs softball team of Wheeler County High School picked up two wins last week over Fitzgerald and Telfair County. Wheeler did fall to Wilcox County on Thursday, but with the wins they have improved their record to 13-5 on the season and they are 6-2 in Region play. vs. Fitzgerald

The Lady Bulldogs started their week strong with a dominant 13-0 victory over the Fitzgerald Lady Huricanes on Monday. The team's offense came alive early, with a sixrun first inning. Those runs came on hits by Shelley Conner, Kaitlyn Conner, Gabby Angel, and Laurie Conner. Mackenzie Johnson drove in a run in the top of the second inning to extend the lead to 7-0.

Then in the top of the third inning Wheeler plated six more runs on hits by Ava Dixon, Johnson and a tworun home run by Kaleigh Scott. That put Wheeler up 13-0. They held in the bottom of the frame and in the fourth to take the game by the run rule. vs. Telfair Co.

On Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs had to fight for a 6-2 comeback win against the Telfair County Lady Trojans. Telfair got on the board in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Wheeler didin't score until the fifth inning as they tied the game at 1-1 on a double by Laurie Conner.

Telfair took the lead back in the top of the sixth inning, but Wheeler rallied in the bottom of the frame with five runs to take a 6-2 lead. Those runs came on hits by Rozilynn Cox, Kaleigh Scott, Kaitlyn Conner, Anna Ethredge, and Laurie Conner. Wheeler held in the seventh inning to take the win by that score, 6-2. vs. Wilcox Co.

The Lady Bulldogs' winning streak came to an end on Thursday with a 6-2 loss to the Wilcox County Patriots. Wilcox County took an early lead with five runs in the first inning and added another in the second as they quickly were in front, 6-0.

The Lady Bulldogs' offense struggled to get going, as they plated their first run in the bottom of the fifth inning and then added one more in the sixth. That was all Wheeler could get as they dropped the game to Wilcox, 6-2.

This week Wheeler was at Appling County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be off the rest of the week before traveling to Hawkinsville next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
